Prepare a Fleece For Spinning Workshop - 18th May 17
Come and join us on the family farm set within 300 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside. The day will be held in our newly built, wonderful oak framed barn looking out over the sheep pastures. A fun and informative day learning all aspects of preparing a fleece for spinning.
Get hands on with lots of different breeds of sheep fleece, from our very own Gotland and Stein Fine ® wools to Hebridian, Portland, Zwartbles, Shetland, Romney to name but a few. Prepare the fleece and get to experience spinning with the fibre on a drop spindle.
Take home a project bag with your own drop spindle, a range of fleeces and a copy of our own Sticka 2 book, so you can continue spinning away.
Locally roasted coffee and a selection of teas will be available throughout the day, along with afternoon cake, homemade of course. Emma will talk about how she and Susie look after the flock to produce quality fleeces, and give you some strategies on how to choose the right fleece for your next project. You will have lots of practice in preparing the fleeces in different ways dependent on the project you have in mind. Emma will help you to build confidence in sourcing and preparing fibre on your own, as well as getting you going on the drop spindle.
There will be an opportunity to meet the sheep weather permitting.
What's included in the course;
Coffee, tea and juice throughout the day.
A tasty home made lunch will be provided and afternoon cake.
200g of different raw fleece
A copy of our latest Sticka magazine.
@pigpenslug came on our very first spinning course and 4 years on here are her comments. "It changed my life and made me realise there is no limit to how creative you can be - once you have mastered the basics. My house is now full of fleece, spinning wheels x 3, drum carder etc.
