British Gotland Aran - Summer Storms
British yarn loved and cared for on the Surrey, Hampshire borders
We farm on the Surrey Hampshire borders surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful countryside.
Our Gotland yarn is from our own pedigree flock of Gotland Sheep. Each year we lamb, rear, shear and care for our flock. From making the hay for them to eat to the straw which we tuck them up in the barn with.
What makes us different?
Susie shears our flocks at Christmas or early in the New Year. At this time the fleece is at its premium, keeping its owner toasty and dry against the elements. In return we tuck the girls up in the barn with oodles of clean straw to keep them warm and plenty of hay.
Susie and I sort each fleece for quality, length and lustre. The fleeces are sorted into their different colours, bagged and then driven to Yorkshire for washing, then down to the West Country for spinning by John Arbon. Finally winding its way back to the farm for hand dyeing by Emma. Our Gotland yarn is worsted spun, drapey with a fine bloom when blocked. Cosy and warm, ideal for a snuggly project.
Our spinning each year is strictly limited. When stocks run low it is not a case of phoning our supplier for more yarn! We have to wait for our wool to be sheared and processed, which takes months.
Our Gotland yarn brings with it the heritage and passion of the artisan at each stage, offering you a luxury British yarn that is super soft and lustrous.
When it's gone, it's gone - some things are just worth waiting for!
